Intelligent Device for Measuring the Heart Rate

Alexandru Daniel Morman, Alexandru-IonuÈ› Rozaliu

Abstract

This paper proposes a technique of measuring the heart rate using a red laser beam and a photoresistor to measure the amount of light that passes through a translucent area of the human body. The light absorption in the area is related to the level of oxygen in the blood and so the photoresistor detects the blood flow through the area. The signal output of the sensor is filtered, amplified and then transmitted to a computer by means of an electronic board Arduino Uno to calculate the heart rate. With this technique, a low cost heart measuring device was built.
